White House Faced Allegations of Attack on Freedom of Expression Following UK Reporter Detained

The major Islamic civil liberties group has accused the present leadership of a obvious affront to freedom of expression” after federal border officials detained British journalist Sami Hamdi on Sunday.

The organization claimed that Hamdi was detained at San Francisco airport due to speaking out against Israel’s continuing military campaign in Gaza. He is among a number of persons who have been detained and removed by federal agents for expressing pro-Palestinian opinions.

Federal authorities announced that Hamdi’s travel visa had been revoked, and that he was in custody “awaiting deportation.”

Immigration Authorities Detains UK Reporter After Criticism of Israel

UK reporter Sami Hamdi was reportedly held over the weekend by federal immigration authorities at San Francisco international airport, and advocates claims that the detention is apparent punishment for the Muslim political commentator’s statements of Israel while touring the US.

An announcement from the group said it was “an obvious insult to free speech” to hold Hamdi for criticizing Israel’s current military campaign in the Gaza region while he engaged on a lecture series. A government representative stated in a different statement that Hamdi is facing deportation.
