‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Publishes Emotional Tribute to Rob Reiner
The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Devastating Incident
Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home this past weekend.
“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”
Charges Filed
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.
“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan added. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”
Children Share Their Grief
Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
Hollywood Tributes Pour In
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner via comments shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”
An Enduring Filmography
When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.
Reiner’s celebrated filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
