Triple Most Valuable Player Jokic endures a 'devastating' injury to his knee.

The star center in action
The Denver Nuggets star won the NBA's Most Valuable Player title in three of the past four years.

Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half following an accidental collision with team-mate Jones.

The other player landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately fell to the floor grabbing his knee.

The star, that tops the NBA season in boards and assists, had 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before incurring the problem.

He is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the problem.

"Right away, Jokic realized something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Any player who suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, particularly a player as talented as he is. We will know more tomorrow."

"The team will adjust together. Obviously, at this moment, I'm more worried about him as a person and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
