Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
