The celebrated English actor Dame Helen, currently recipient of an Oscar, several BAFTA honors, three Golden Globes, multiple Emmy accolades, plus a Tony, will soon add another prestigious accolade to her trophy case: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe lifetime achievement award.

Award Event

Dame Helen, eighty, formerly made a dame back in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will accept the award at an event on the eighth of January, three days before the main Golden Globes take place, as part of an event billed by the Globes as Golden Eve.

Also part of the event will be the bestowal of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for small-screen contributions, whose winner is still to be revealed. The prior year’s honorees included Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is a powerhouse performer, with a career is absolutely exceptional,” remarked Helen Hoehne, the Globes’ leader. “Her brilliant portrayals and dedication to acting continue to inspire numerous actors and fans too. It’s a tremendous privilege to award her this lifetime achievement honor.”

Professional Journey

Mirren gained prominence back in the 70s through significant parts in theater in the West End of London and through the Royal Shakespeare Company and in cinematic works such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

During the nineties, her starring role in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase significantly. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her performance as Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a role she revisited during 2013 for The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan about the meetings between the queen and premier the former PM, a role for which Mirren won a Tony during 2015.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

• Subsequent cinematic works include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim with award talk is building regarding her role as a terminally ill matriarch in the film by Kate Winslet first directing effort, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, she will appear in the role of Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nods will be declared on the eighth of December, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, the movie from Chloé Zhao Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
