Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
