Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
