Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
